Types of Contraceptive Coils Available
There are two main types of contraceptive coils:
- Copper Coil (IUD)
- Hormonal Coil (IUS e.g. Mirena & Jayess)

Before the Fitting: Call for pre appointment information, and to make an appointment to suit you.
You must not be at risk of pregnancy (no sex in the menstrual month leading up to coil fitting age 52 or younger).
Some women find it uncomfortable, it is a good idea to take paracetamol or ibuprofen before the appointment.
Dr Benson will take a full history, answer questions and take consent. The appointment Is an hour, allowing for time for questions and to take things slowly and gently.
If you have lots of questions it may be an idea to have a pre coil fitting on line or face to face appointment to go over them before arranging the fitting.
